さだまさしの同名楽曲から生まれた小説を大沢たかお主演で映画化。1987年、日本人医師・島田航一郎は大学病院からケニアの研究施設に派遣される。半年後、現地の赤十字病院を訪れた彼は、そこで少年兵・ンドゥングと出会う。
